The tears found me.
I eluded their pursuit
in a merry game of denial
but as waning hours of same
passed another threshold,
they were waiting.

Maybe milestones are meant
for taking stock
and making goals
but my inability to deliver
on unrealistic expectations
has caused such strife
throughout my life.

I should lower my standards
and give breath a break
from listing my
endless shortcomings.
Instead, I risk
hyperventilation.

But as I lament my failures,
a beacon of pure blessing
shines on my should-have-been’s
and tremulous smile
becomes song of celebration.

You love me –
All else is insignificant.

*smiling at you*  yes....all else IS insignificant when love makes us feel this way...Well done.

FUNNY HOW THAT WORKS aint it?
SO BREATHE will ya....

inhale...exhale...

See how easy it is.... *S*

Anyone ever tell ya heart on sleeve poetry looks good on ya?

(so does breathing) LOL...
SO KEEP IT UP.

(save the hyperventilation for the werk monster)

Poetry is emotion put into measure.
The emotion comes by nature ...
but the measure is acquired by art.

And that is all that really matters!
Beautiful write full of such hope.

While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?

It took me a while to realize that being loved by someone (even two teeny people) meant more to me than any amount of money, and you know they think I am just "perfect!"  We are all way too hard on ourselves, and your poem sure confirms that.

Eric: Thank you so much... I'm glad! *S*

PS: Thank you, sweet lady. *S*

Marge: Shhhhh... *G* Only heartsongs... and it takes love to listen to me. *G* Love you, too... thank you! *S*

ecrivan: That is true... and that's what we all need... *S* Thank you very much! *S*

Martie: Your "girl" leaves a smile... since those tears were for my first half century! LOL Thank you!

Mysteria: Those teeny people aren't to be discounted... not at all. *S* In fact... I probably lit up the whole state with my smile when a certain little 6 year old boy sang to me over the phone! *S* (And... note to Marge... HE sings on key better than his aunt does! LOL) Thank you so much!!

miscellanea: Oh, lady... you just made my day! *S* Thank you so very much... I may just frame your reply! *S*

GG: Thank you so much! *S* And I'm glad you like the title... I didn't see how I could call it anything else. *S*

Kit: That's exactly what brought this poem into being... looking back brings sadness... and it's so easy to be mesmerized by that rear view mirror. *S* But... what is and what shall be matters more... cataloging what can't be changed into its proper place. *S* Thank you so much! *S*

LeeJ: And your response leaves me grinning, too. *S* Unmasked and accepted... yes. *S* Thank you so much! *S*

Suthern beloved one, YOU are well beloved too, oh how wonderful you are, okay I’m biased, but I know what is good, what isn’t and what is simply beauty and you are and always will be.

Your writing is superb, always excellent, always apt and never ever flat or boring, never for a moment am I left thinking what was that. YOU are truly one awesome writer, and this is not just excellent, it is beyond exquisite.

Love you always

"But as I lament my failures,"

And there you have it.
If you have tried and failed
you can lift your chin and say
I tried.

One should never lament their failures,
they should only cry
if they never tried, or gave, or loved.

You are magnificent.

You are Poet.
