I said I knew something
Of the way the earth revolved
Round and round the sun
In a hobbled sort of path
That tilted first one axis
Then the other towards
Tongues of warm

And how at equinox
  The distance were imbalanced
Not quite pulling out the light
The same as when all else
Was in its wax or wane

You smiled
And told me I over thought things
It was simple really
  Attractions
                  And the way all things
Find change
As you began to undress the clouds
And add your own softness to the light

Then I realized
my words were vain
Efforts to capture how it was with you
After so long denying to myself and God
I would speak this way again
As I wished to touch the air
You breathed and the softness of skin

But picked up then
                       My pen
turned Stained binding back
To an empty page
         And wrote:

“I felt the stir of you and began to know
that I was not likely to be the one to make a difference
or to provide the answers you deserved, but I would be
thought of fondly when you remembered how it was
along the way to Mercer’s “

So now let this chapter
                                              Begin
