The beauty of a summer rose
un-denied by those who know
opens up its heart to more
and rises, rises up,
in tandem with the dawn.

I wonder if it knows
in just a minute after
the awakening
life will send wind, thunder, rain,
and hail to bring to ground
the spiraled flight of mind.

Petals wilt and fall,
the summer rose has died
before the knowing of it all.

Should I mourn or be aware
others maybe care
and in the silent manner
of habitual presence
will one day bend,
retrieve, preserve,
broken petals of a heart?

To be that rose
lifeless
artificially perfumed
and on a shelf looking out
for the rest of mortal life
and I ask what evil deed
has brought about the fall
and caused the rose to be
dead but living still.

The air is still and silent
calm now that all’s been done
and another rose awakens
in tandem with the dawn!

Now, didn't we have similar feelings, dear Helen?

You have developed your emotions wonderfully!

Dawn is the daily gift and reminder of continuous rebirth.

Mmm this reminds me a little of W.B. Yeats poems about roses. Of course I have been reading his stuff for a couple weeks now. (Wink!) It is really a well written piece though. Bravo!

Thank you all so much for your kind comments.

I am sure many have similar thoughts about "dying before knowing it all" when cutting off dead roses.  I once wrote about 20 pieces just on roses but that was a long, long, time ago.  Who knows, maybe they were the cause of some inspiration. (wink)

This piece is touching and beautiful in its considerations - much enjoyed and well written.
