~*~

I didn't carry a torch
or fall on my knees in despair.
I simply kept a candle burning
lighting up your name.
One I never forgot
after all these years,
wasting the fan on other flames.

Recalling;
moments at a time
a time that was all wrong
and still,
a piece of my heart remained
if you should find it there.

In spite of the silent nights
that stormed my thought process,
I kept you close
and learned to let go in the same breath,
holding onto the notion
that was never mine for the taking.

Yet here we stand
in the middle of distant dreams
leafing through the fall
wrapped up in our reverie
true to love in the making
when I needed you most.

Given to reason why I never lost hope
that you would return safely.
Praying our paths might cross
the bridge that wasn't ours to pass,
a long time ago.

Perhaps it still is not,
not in the same context
for the structure has changed
but does not alter my willingness to reach you
or go where we've never been before
and make it last.

It's all I can do
to open my arms and run with you
for no one ever came so close
when walking away
for all the right reasons,
or showed me the way to love
and believe it.

Only a very special person can do that.  I've missed your words, dear Bluesy.  May you find that which lasts in spite of changing structures.  Take care.

oh Lorie, sigh....this beauty comes straight from your heart and dear? No matter how the structures might change, may you always find peace within....
so very good to read your words hon.

You do know how to write the blues. Motivated in part, it seems to me, by your determination to never give up. I love your writing. But you already knew that.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

At the risk of sounding like a country preacher, I do believe.

Beautifully done, bluesgal!

Lori,  this says so much...and the ending
is so perfect for the emotion that is
carried within the poem....Wishing you the
best,  always the best...

There's a very good reason why good poems
float back up to the top...

just so they can catch my eye...

some days, we just move so fast in here...
