Her Whispered Sorrow

At the center of her happiness and pain,
Lies a weltering tree of patience and lies;
And on its ancient branches crawl the worms of contempt,
Gnawing and chewing on strong but brittle hands---
Hands that weep and grow tired,
Attempting to hold onto the fruits of forgotten joy.

The moon’s glare shows no pity
Making autumn leaves appear as burning stars,
Shining sadness onto love’s promise
As cherry apples drop alone and uneaten,
Feeding neither wisdom nor comfort
To the center of his weltering heart.

Marcel
