Without Saying the Word

Like a small farewell, a forgiving breath,
it swells and folds and falls dragging the sand,
asking nothing of seashells.

A whisper perhaps would sound like this
and nudge just so
the unspeakable sadness of goodbye.

This sea is not only a matter of rivers
or the hum of fish, blue and mystical
that bite the mouth,

with each kiss of light on water
I hold my breath and sink
into the cobalt cold of doubt,
not knowing if I can swim
with your arms around me
or if you will pull me down or save me,
from what remains of this tide inside
that sweeps the edge of me subtle.

With wave after wave I crash
and measure my strength in grains of sand
where children are digging fast
and the last high tide threatens a castle.

It is here, it has arrived between my hands
and plays, lets go of the wind
loosens the sky from grey,
it is endless, in the midst of waves
and the crease of horizons tale.

East and west the sun rises
and sets within this place,
a lazy slow movement that sleeps
and then wakes, and in between,
to breathe is best done slowly,
knowing within the waters coming
there is something holy.

It is huge in its silence,
then roars like a storm
and rains new meanings,
the fine art of unwinding languages,
uttered in wavelengths

without even saying a word.

-------------
Thank you, Maree

When you two write it is flawless, seamless, sort of almost "sensual" if that is possible.  It feels like the reader has been stroked on the back of the neck by a lover, does that make any sense?  In otherwords, it feels just so damn good, yanno?   You think I enjoyed it, you bet I did!

Just adding my voice to the chorus
In thanks that your verse lies before us
I like that you two
Give us thoughts to pursue
Please write more; you never could bore us.

Thanks to Martie and Maree for this lovely thinker.

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
