Waiting For Inspiration

I read my mind’s old magazines,
waiting room chairs always too hard,
too soft, used up in me. I wonder
if the clerks have all gone home.
Dulled pictures, the text of memories
and the musak almost memorized,
I hardly need the pages
fading dog-eared into time and use,
still I turn them to have something
to do with my imagination.

Subscriptions, what happened
to all my subscriptions?
Did I have any, or are these thoughts
merely discards people brought in?
Surely I had something new once,
surely I was new once, all clean
in here behind my eyes, stiff with
the smell of mortar and fresh paint?

I can’t say. Maybe it was on
some page torn surreptitiously
and slipped, half-folded, into
a pocket, or more likely a purse.
It isn’t in me now, I know that.
Still I hope to hear them soon,
the quiet quickly steps up to
the empty service window, and
a voice to me from inside there.

I’m alone in here,
I would have to be next,
wouldn’t I?

Very original thoughts here, Ratleader!

Beautifully inspired ... by an only apparent lack of inspiration!

Ed

"I’m alone in here,
I would have to be next,
wouldn’t I?"

You may be alone within your own mind, but we all have waited in this same line, for inspiration...I certainly have.  I think you have treasure in there...just look at this poem you made from nothing.

Obviously, you don't need any more inspiration then you have now. Even your words about waiting for it are amazing. So, when you get some, could you give it to me, please? I could use some inspiration about now. I felt like I was there, reading, waiting with you...

Well now,
You've done some fine re-cycling of those old musty pages.

How beautiful. The expression is "when life gives you lemons, make lemonade" but your "lemon" of feeling without inspiration has turned into a very fine wine! What an amazing poem.

This hits a little too close to home...
I don't dare look for inspiration in the waiting room.
Ya know me, she's so vain..... I want to sit pretty in my pain.

Miss you Ed~

And you're waiting???? *S* I could copy line after line I'd be proud to see flow from my pen... While you wait, you leave the rest of us in your dust. *G*

I love this, my friend... and suspect the ending will be with me for a while. *S* Excellent!!!

When I go through
those old subscriptions
I always wonder
of the people who
momentarily made them, "theirs",
and removed parts of it
for their own use,
forgetting its need to stay
whole.

Well done, Sir...

RatL.,
Glad to be back for a little while.  You haven't changed!  Your poetry still dangles its creativity, depth, and skill like the carrot on a stick in front of a mule, leading one wherever you choose to adventure, good time, or sad time.  Your analogy is fantastic, as usuuuuuaaaalll!
Enjoyed bunches.  Take care,
