Shadows in the glare,
I ask but cannot hear
and my focus wavers,
slips through disasters, drought,
deprivation, homelessness,
and into hope and longing,
pretence and make believe,
till finally,
inevitably,
I can’t readily agree
life isn’t what it seems?

Fingers search the board
for the fairy dust of war,
delectable sprinkles
on slices of heartache,
and the golden syrup
cascading from it all
but there is none and nothing,
no reasonable belief,
life isn’t what it seems.

A genie in a bottle,
a spirit flesh embalmed,
can see perhaps not one but more
on the outskirts building voice
to shout the truth of all that is
through the cacophony of war
but I’m a fool in paradise
adorned with red earmuffs
to match the colour of my face
for when I understand …
life isn’t what it seems!

I hope you dont mind if I write.
I tried for Mozambique which pear shaped and Ghana has now done the same.

Your words however, are the reason I am writing

Dave

Faint breath swirling in damp heat
Asked of my mind
A vision and belief
Of those
Who would help
But 2 out of 3 who could
Dance on fingers
Searching the board

for the fairy dust of war,
delectable sprinkles
on slices of heartache,
and the golden syrup
cascading from it all
but there is none and nothing,
no reasonable belief,
life isn’t what it seems.

A genie in a bottle,
a spirit flesh embalmed,
can see perhaps not one but more
on the outskirts building voice
to shout the truth of all that is
through the cacophony of war
but I’m a fool in paradise
adorned with red earmuffs
to match the colour of my face
for when I understand …
life isn’t what it seems!

Your words go to people
Maybe
We can find one

Who will listen

Thank you for sharing this very sensitive piece of poetry.

What our Earth witnesses is heartwrenching ... but every moment offers the choice to either get caught up in sheer desperation or to build hope anew upon all the horrors .... new flowers are ready to bloom against all odds ...

Love, Margherita

Thanks to all for the read.  Perhaps thinking is the name of the game - the game of life we all have to play - but who really knows for sure.
