Sunlight had danced across water
And for hours we had drifted
Letting current take us a lazy days path
To where we camped

As you decided to cook
I pulled the old leather book from my pack
And began to write

“I traced the curve of her lip
with one finger
as she looked through half closed eyes
at something beyond my own visage
and wondered at the things she
might see...

her sigh halted my touch
just as it was finding
mouths corner and my own lips
begged me to taste
her breath

the smile she gave me
was real
  but she was still somewhere
beyond the veil of now

Living perhaps another love
or remembering how it once was with her
free and wild...
            lonely child
lost....

and I
         touched her mouth again

and added my own small smile

for any part of her she shared
was enough to make me know
the depths inside were there
  some,
     she might never
                       show”

You looked over my shoulder
As I wrote the last words
Asked to see it all
And I just laughed

“Someday perhaps.”
“For now, just understand”

On several levels
this suits me just fine.

I sat there with you in that moment and felt the heart - lovely -

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Ron, for me, that part could stand on its own
it's such a tender expression of acceptance and understanding.

and I am haunted
by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up
so I just drift in between

Ron

“Someday perhaps.”
“For now, just understand”

The reward for accepting and acceptance is the pleasure these two give to eachother.  A lovely poem!

This is why I am never gonna date a poet

It's bad enough I am deep behind a superficial mask
