in the shadows

There are times
when I miss the days of thunder,
and in missing
I begin to wonder if the monster still
is locked down tight within my soul;
I fear not for humanity
nor struggle with eternity,
I have earned whatever karmic debts may be,
it is just the tense vibrations in the air
from time to time
that momentarily lift my heart to soar;
this life I live today
is a strange way to be free
having more than once wandered through the world,
driven only by the winds of war.

When the bullet hits the ground,
finally it is free in peace
and has returned to ask forgiveness of the Earth,
and the Earth accepts it willingly,
unfailing,
without judgement,
without sackcloth enfolded guilt,
not as some redemption for choices of its flight,
nor as repentance
for serving in a specie’s impassioned crimes of right,
but merely for existence,
an equal partner child,
in time returning all its energy and form
to the warehouse of supplies
with which all of life is built,
for even heavy metals fill a needed space;
the Earth receives it all without complaint,
just as the Mother can conceive,
and has capacity to suckle at her breast
and love with equal passion,
the child of a satan or a god.

I will not stand for judgement
on beliefs,
nor on my deeds,
before any
but the essence
of the universal life force I contain;
for me there is no ceremony
no joyous sad refrain,
I have carried the awareness
of the voice inside the will
in shaping life,
having known I’m not the grip
nor guard
nor steel that forms the knife,
instead have been an instrument of choice
made for the edge upon the blade.

Interesting, isn't it, how one renders the other obsolete....almost...reduces it to the role of pocket pal...almost....but can't ever do it completely. Always a role for that keen hard edge, when things get close and quiet and dirty, and the strokes are short.

Outstanding indeed, couldn't choose a favourite line only becasue I love them all.

it's a

Maree

and I am haunted
by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up
so I just drift in between
