Have you hugged one today?

overworked, underpaid
at times barely noticed,
she stands shoulder to shoulder
against the elements,

with feet calloused and waterlogged
come april's pre daffodil showers,

a high rise above
the roots that house her,
and a mere wink below
the sky that both caresses
and rapes her senselessly
come the wicked season,

proud, regal and stoic
she is the blueblood
that plays the martyr
bred to hold the storms within,

yet will quiver
upon a wind's seduction
then blush scarlet
when her soul's exposure
falls upon her,

mother, child, dreamer,
lover, matyr, sacrifial lamb

god breathes through her;

have you hugged one today?

Lovely - are you a tree hugger?  I am - keeps one well grounded

No I haven't today...but I promise to soon. Am loving your tree words inked

Maree.

and I am haunted
by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up
so I just drift in between

actually no, I haven't but I will, especially since I have been feeling the trees so much myself lately.
You know, as soon as I read this:

overworked, underpaid
at times barely noticed,

I realized you had just defined a mother . . .

beautiful writing, Michele

The good thing is you HAVE them.  Even though
they change and weather the winds,  bowing
gracefully to each gust...shedding leaves
that we must arrest the tides of...blessed
are they who give us shelter on the rise
of summer days...

Well done,  excellent write

I am going to save this one, along with the photos/video I took of Delaney last week, as we had a tree-hugging session at her home~

Thank you~

awwww thought you were talking about women?

hehhehhee, nope, haven't but after reading this...well, I'm telling my boss that I need two personal hours today to go hug a tree.

This was an exceptional penning...enjoyed.

Hugs and smiles
