Night fell quietly upon a small cottage, one
which held the heart of a poet.

His dreams spanned centuries within his
mind and on the parchment which lay all about
the room and the floor.

A dozen candles or so flickered excitedly and
danced the darkened mahogany walls,
reflecting shadows of a debutante ball.

His slumber darkened his lids though his eyes
danced and flitted to and fro, searching for
the one word that might add a degree of spice
to another piece of his puzzle of poems and
stories....just one more, he thought.

The winds lay calm outside, allowing the moon
to float lazily upon the quiet waters....A lover’s
moon...a time of soft kisses, gentle touches
and fantasies that came to life upon a nettle
strewn lawn...He recalled...

Her gown, lightly sequined, sparkling as did her
eyes, for love coursed her veins....a tender
hearted lass of 18...she was then, that night when
he hesitantly asked her to dance....his hand
shaking and his stomach trembling as he
fumbled through a short intro....she smiled.

And then, as suddenly as the dream took him
to her, the crashing sound took her away.....
a huge limb....aged and dying, fell outside
his door....His heart racing, eyes searching
the darkness...was this all...would the night
again return to calm....

The creak of footsteps on the porch chilling
his veins...his breath held, the beat of his
heart a crescendo in his mind.....

The door flew open, and standing there
before him....

He screamed....the echo crashing into the
mountain walls....until quiet once again came
to a small cottage...as candles danced excitedly
till the wicks waned into their own waxen
death.....once more...

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.
