Where no tyranny is tolerable

Word-processed Chicken Edition 2004
1:
I am at home
And it is night.
Mother is lecturing us about chicken.
She tells me
To stop asking for more servings
Because there isn't any left.
She says that what is left
Will be for me,
the only son.
My little cousin
Plays in the corner with her doll,
Having nothing else to do,
And nothing to eat.

2:
I find Mother
In the kitchen eating chicken.
I think: What? ... leftovers? ...
She brings me a plate of chicken,
Then another, then another ...
I tell her a crumby joke
I overheard while at Loyola,
Which I thought was a catholic school
Where you weren't supposed to eat meat
But did it anyway.
(even though, in Waking Life
I never went to school there.
And I don't know
I even spelled Loyola right.)

3:
Eat the chicken, drink the wine
Even when there isn't any.
And have a good life,
Even if they say you can't.
After all,
That's what the chicken you are eating
Would be thinking.
The way I figure,
There are two choices:
Either you eat the chicken
Or ... ...
And who wants to be beaten up by drumsticks,
Or get ground up by gizzards?
The common barnyard chicken
is a fat, dumb, bird
That evolution just forgot.

4:
When Prince Charles came to south Texas,
They served him some tamales.
Just remember:
You're not supposed to eat the leaves.

For those folks who live in Fairbanks,
Who don't know about tamales,
They grow on trees.
Mother Goose says chickens don’t have to lay roosters
To lay eggs.
Midnitesun knows the identity of Mother Goose.

LOL, I forgot about this one. Food dreams, who would have known they would wax poetic.
And it would be nice if those tamales grew on trees outside your window, then you wouldn't have to venture over to King Soopers or Safeway's.
How is Mother Goose these days?
