I have a child, a little girl
They say she has my eyes,
it's really hard to tell from just
the pictures.
She has dark brown curls and dimples,
just like her mamma.
I've watched her grow from this distance
through the pictures she sends to me,
and I carry those pictures
close to my heart.
I've never heard her little girl voice,
never heard her laugh as she cuddles the stuffed kitten that was so hard to find here.
I've never heard her call me daddy.
I don't even think she knows I am her dad,
even though her mom shows her my pictures
every day.
She will be almost three before I make it home...
...if I make it home...
I have a child, a little girl.
I've never seen her.

sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses, even if you get stuck by the thorns...

a touching write about an all-too-common issue

I think you captured the feelings well.

It sounds like a poem for a serviceman abroad on a 2 year posting extended to 3.

I remember listening to a BBC broadcast on a sunday that spoke of roast potatoes and a sunday dinner.

The news arrived on a weekly basis as you caught up with it.

I wonder how many people would tolerate that now.

A soldier's heartfelt write...
it's obvious he loves his country
just as much.

Well done, Paula.

Oh this aches

Well Done Paula.

and I am haunted
by my illicit exquisite dream
but I can't really wake up
so I just drift in between
