Recieve

``````````````````````````
The wind sucked the dust,
a swirling whirlpool of grit,
into the empty phone booth
tickling dog-eared and dog-tired
yellow pages
into a restless tsunami of oragami butterflies
beating fragile wings against a dirty
plexiglass frame
scribbled with "Mary was here"
and "do you believe in Jesus?"
All i ever needed to know of the bible
written in cheap nail polish
right under some number
I know i'll never call
as I look at my own scratched number
wondering if the coins will be enough
to take my thoughts and pleads from here
without hearing
"for three more minutes, please deposit $2.50"
or the click of disconnect
already so loud in my ears
still yet, I wonder
will it be answered or ignored
as I in this Mecca of public phonetic interchange
am stung by more than dust
and fragile wings
blinded by a fragment of memory
seeping unwilling over
drought stricken cheeks
to parched parted lips
uttering "hello" into the reciever
greeting the nothing
nothing more than
crossed wires and maybe
empty pockets speak louder than words
finding no quarter...no safe keeping here
leaving the line dead,
no one here to take your call
no one here...
(again, my thanks to Cpat for this duet)
Cool reading. Love the flavor.
Yanno? Now that I think about it, I can't remember the last time I saw a directory in a phonebooth
Again folks, the credit goes to the Muted kid... most of this is hers... and none of it would have been at all, if she hadn't come up with the idea...
It's always a learning experience with her.. me learning how to keep up and not mess up what she does so well..
thanks D, for the pleasure... and the lessons
i have been to that phone booth it's in the middle of ...
oh wait or was it ..
I loved this one
could actually see the person standing there.
It's not the blindfold that blinds you,
it's the person that puts it there.
Very excellent writing, you two. I was also going to say that I could see the person standing there in that phone booth, worrying that she wouldn't have enough money, or that the guy on the other end wouldn't give the answer she wanted...even if she got the call through. It was kind of like a scene in a movie to me.
Hugs to you both,
Ethel
