I've seen the faces of a new generation
with no beat, no rythmn to call their own
no prose, no reflection on the mirror.
Young victims who sit in their dimly lit rooms
having all the time in the clock
to fantasize about roadtrips  and intimate sex
to close their eyes and feel the familiar choke
of anxiety caused by a clear state of mind
who feel the blistering pressure on their foreheads
and try to escape to dark alleys in Paris
to the backs of trucks traveling West
to broken escalators rising towards Heaven
and to the curvy corners of their best friend's minds.
People who use masterpieces to cover the holes in their walls
and use albums to bait lovers into spending the night
when all either one wants to do is go home
to stare off into the wild eyes of the moon
or drink hot coffee on a July sidewalk day
Teenage boys who don't understand teenage girls
who spend the night tearing at their rebelious hair
begging beatniks to come back down
       from their heavenly poet's conference
and tell them what it's like to live and die
like real men without a clue
who know the fear of a heartbeat inside a womb
who search the skies for the answer
       but find only smug clouds
and a crying girlfriend on the telephone.
The faces who press next to each other to keep warm
on cold, rainy days, looking for a good time
and finding only each other in love
staring down the street through gates
and wondering if anyone else appreciates the sight
who get drunk off the words of their heros
writing from small towns in Mexico
and sleeping with witches on the East Coast
who laugh at burning insects
and stare in awe as the smoke curls into a lizard wearing a crown.

You brought a lot of images forth to my mind with this write.  I enjoyed this one very much.

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

I agree with Gentle Spirit - this is rich in its imagery and it also carries a definite mood - enjoyed the experience -

Susan

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.
