Everything means nothing
when I measure it with grace
and lies just seemed so beautiful, there,
resting on your face.

Some acoustic kind of cadence
dressed up storms in green and blue,
and it made your words seem wonderful,
though none of them were true.

I spun myself within them.
Like a fool, I believed.
Left hanging in your shadow, now,
forgotten and deceived.

Pain can last
but dreams die young,
and hope is stretched too thin.
I pulled it too far, now it's
frail in the wind.

He was a man of sorrows
...I am a girl of tears.

OH, I feel this one, and it hurts. It hurts when you let somone in so close, and then they pull back.

A very touching write of love and loss but I often ask myself who really gains in the long run - the one who opens or the one who closes?

Alyssa,
  I'm taken by your poem.

   "I spun myself within them.
    Like a fool, I believed.
Left hanging in your shadow, now,
    forgotten and deceived."

This year, I learned something about shadows.  There is more to a shadow than meets the eye.

It is sooooooo good to read you again, my Alyssan friend.  You are a very special poetess!

Alyssa,

this caught me right off:

and lies just seemed so beautiful, there,
resting on your face.

God, so many times I have seen just that
Beautiful writing.

Midnitesun,
definitely does. But it seems that it happens to us all at some point... thank you for your reply.

Honey,
I guess really it depends. We always gain by letting them in, but there are a certain few times when we could gain more by never having stepped out there. Maybe I'm just a bit burnt, though Thank you...

Cathy,
I sure hope they're good things... because so far it isn't seeming all too great a place. It's good to be back here again. Though I fear it won't be as long as I'd like... life has a way of stealing time away. It's like time passes every second or something, crazy huh? thank you for your words.

raph,
wow, what a huge compliment. Thank you very much. Hope things are well for you...

littlewing,
I know it's definitely something I've seen on many people. It's so much easier to believe them, and live in that fantasy, even if just for awhile. Thanks for your reply, love hearing from you

LeeJ,
I fear we all learn that lesson. Over and over and over again. Maybe someday we'll all have people there for us enough that we don't 'need' those beautiful lies anymore. Never hurt to dream, right? Great hearing from you, thanks for the reply.

Marge,
you're always so sweet! Thank you much dear lady

Brooding

The sadness of our lives.
We will never be good enough to each other,
to our parents and friends.
We go along like old sailing ships,
loaded with food and drink for the long voyage,
self-sufficient, without any outside contact
with the world.

The truth faces me
all the time.  We are in a world
in which nobody listens to anybody,
in which we do as we please
until we are stopped by others.
We live our whole lives as in a husk,
which keeps us separate from any influence.
While those who reflect the influence
of others are either idiots, or people
who never gained consciousness.

Huan,
I love how you take the time to offer such powerful words. There is a lot of truth in them... I only wish there were more who could break the cycle. Thank you for the words...
