A breeze pushes me ever forward,
onto a dusty road, one shrouded by
brush, weeds, an occasional rusty
mailbox, the flag broken away from
it’s pivot, pointing downward.

This road, known only to him,  he
who walks a pace which I dare not
keep.  Cloaked in darkness and a
mask which covers a faceless head.
Turning occasionally, beckoning me
onward into a future which has not
been seen.

Dust covers the shuffle of shoe, the
step which springs less with each
mile.  A silver moon has risen and
basked my shoulder, gently pushing me.
Bringing me to a crossroads.   One
where choices and decisions have
scarred the path and left worn hands
to wring and want.

Perhaps one day a cool rain shall fall on
this dry earth...bringing flowers to
bloom, wetting a pate that has felt
the sear of a haunting and motionless
sun. Perhaps then the step will stride
and pass, letting him stand alone
as dust settle around his own feet,
now worn, weathered and weary...
as a choice is made at a crossroad,
and life takes one more step forward,
not back...

Barry

I've been at those crossroads a few times...it is scary ...and yet it forces you to make a choice.  I think that's a good thing.  A thoughtful write, my friend.

Barry,
There is really only one direction, forward
no mater the cross roads. Enjoyed

Barry - this speaks of weariness, yet of hope, of outstepping and taking our own path - I like it - you write life and choices so well - I miss you when your name is not here for me to read your eloquent words.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

"life takes one more step forward,
not back..."

yes..one would hope it's always forward progress...but I know I have taken a few back...

Very nicely done Barry!
