O master, thee of my rebirth,
of darkness dim and morning fright.
Of whispers veiled on bogged earth
from rivers run the flood of blight.

Of carriage towed the cobbled path
and wisps of fire and boiling gruel.
Of demon growls and fearsome wrath
upon the cleave of sharpened tool.

O Lord of life beyond the dead,
beyond the shadows scurry nigh.
Beyond the walk of shriveled dread
in search the howl of vermin’s cry.

A place where stumbling shrouded seek
to fill the cauldron with their due.
As bubbles rise and starkly peek
amongst the swirl of roiling stew.

And whence the fires no longer burn
and embers fade into the floor....
A bird of black will ‘gain return
to spin a tale of nevermore.....

No need to eat crow...or raven...on this most charming write.  Lots of interesting word pictures and eerie thoughts surround this fine write.  KJ

What a very welcome first read in a long time here, Barry -- and so apropos.  You have crafted a classically stylized work of art and reminded me that I have missed your writes.  (and a cool title too!)

If there was a poem
to invite the Grim Reaper in...
this would be the invitation
sent out.

Well done, Sir...
just in time for the end of the month!

I read this yesterday but didn't have time to reply....now after reading again with pleasure, all I think the most sensible response is, Well Done!
