Fingers barely touching
trail like whispers down her cheeks
back and forth searching
for the river of her tears.

Maybe lower to her chin,
neck and fulsome breasts,
and her fingers play
softly, tenderly,
between the folds of skin
age ushered in one day.

No wetness to attest
to the presence of despair,
no dried up river bed
to show how much she cared,
and her fingers travel,
waist, belly, thighs,
to the very centre
of true womanhood.

She pauses on the brink,
perhaps the river flowed
down, down, down,
to where he one day lay
unknowingly to open
the floodgates of desire.

Not now, not there,
where are they then
those accumulated tears
and she turns from this reality
to face the world of soul.

“Watch out!  A river flows!”
screams the echo of her needs
and she cowers in the shadows
too exhausted to run
from unfiltered emotion
threatening to flood
and obliterate
surface composure.

Immobile she stands
remembering it all
before silently detaching
to live the way she must
in total denial of …
the echo of her needs.

Fingers barely touching
trail like whispers down her cheeks
but she knows where rivers flow!

Helen

You capture the inner turmoils so well...with an empathy that most don't have.  That is a blessing, but also a curse, I know.  I sure do appreciate you and your poetry.  This deserves more readers!

this was so well done...

in addition, it's where I've been for the past five years...which ponders many thoughts for me...but...the most credible ones are realizing in this time alone...who I am...knowing and liking me better, using the time wisely for self examination...

I don't feel it denial but more so...great growth and perhaps preparation for what is to come next....so my point is...if this is about you...don't be to hard on yourself...you can't love another until you like the company you keep, and know that company, inside and out, your dreams, desires, needs...then you realize who will best complete the "we" that comes together compatible and mature.

Martie - thank you so much.  You say it all so much better than I ever could.  Yes, empathy sure is a curse!

LeeJ - Thank you!  Yes, I do understand what you're saying and also look at it that way but I know myself inside out by now and still ... the river flows.  Some things just need time and more time.

Dixie - Thank you so much for the read.  Much appreciated.

Talented my friend. The entire piece flowed without stumbbling once. Nice lines reveling towards a superb finish. Nice job here.
