standing on a shadow's lace

Velvet Crinkling

I wore my skin inside out
and walked around on egg shells
thinking you might fall in
the hollow and break your heart
choked on a voice I once had
that became foreign to me
dancing too close to the edges
of a desire never allowed to know
the grabbing of the velvet crinkling
or touch the lace so loosely attached
I never
saw myself as a disappointment
but I am so much better at
being the champion of other’s causes
all along I thought
                              I was trying
                                                   to save you
when I was the one
standing in water too deep
I do not blame you
nothing happened that I did not allow
but you are just so wrong
doors have two ways of going
and this one now closes
and what is lost is much more
than time

This simply seeps sadness... and wisdom learned at a high price. Excellent!
