For Everything

“Thank you....for everything”
she said, the easy closing
that she meant
and its elliptical promise
echoing like the chords
of a blues guitar all down
between the streetlights
of my soul.

I hadn’t offered everything,
not yet at least
though there were no rules,
no rates of exchange,
implied or told.

Everything can be
a lot or nothing at all,
merely what is there
for the giving taking,
or it can be all indeed,
from the darkest substrate
of an existence
to the airless heights
where birds of desire
fall in helpless agony
into the snowdust.

Or everything can be goodbye,
whether final or temporal,
love’s quiet aside
or a cynnical shout.
I know which she offered
and which I received.

“Thank you,” I whispered,
hoping it would be
too soft for her to hear...
“for everything.”

Ah James...such a friend as this...
who copies my ellipses...

I love to tag my lines just so...
they are continuing thoughts that do not need extra words, just extra feelings implied...

...like, "yes, you have me wondering"...and
"yes, the feeling will not go away..."

my ellipses are my friends...

I hope that your friend feels the same...

you see...ellipses, to me, means that the conversations I have with my poets [I am selfish that way, I encompass as many poets at Passions as I can...] will understand that there can be a silence, but never an ending...always, a later...

oh my...you certainly got me to flowing...

Thank you...for this...for everything...

James,
Incredible piece of descriptive feeling!  This and the ending especially drew me in:

   Everything can be
a lot or nothing at all,
merely what is there
for the giving taking,
or it can be all indeed,
from the darkest substrate
of an existence
to the airless heights
where birds of desire
fall in helpless agony
into the snowdust.

I admire your poetic skills and talents!  Send some my way, ok?  I'm at a real standstill!   Again, enjoyed...

Jamie dear

You have such a lovely heart.  Everything in it is filled up to capacity and spilling out in sweet emotion.  This is a very special poem.

This is a moving and touching tribute to words that need not be said for love to be exchanged.  KJ

I read this early this morning... and was literally silenced with awe. *S* Aside from the fact that I use those little trailing dots critters on a regular basis myself... you've woven emotions and images together into such an incredible, seamless whole... and yet... a reader could get lost in appreciation for the crafting...

Everything can be
a lot or nothing at all,
merely what is there
for the giving taking,
or it can be all indeed,
from the darkest substrate
of an existence
to the airless heights
where birds of desire
fall in helpless agony
into the snowdust.

Absolutely superb work... and then... the wistful, tender ending... This is a keeper!!
