The Viking and the Gypsy

Once there was a Viking tall
Descended of the red flame clan
Who wore a halo white

He crossed the lands on faithful steed
Of sinew and strength of steel
A beast of blackest night

One morn he saw a gypsy maid
Dancing upon shaded lea
With flowers entwined in chestnut tress

She played upon a tambourine
Unaware of eyes in wooded stand
That followed her carefree steps

He watched her from a sheltered glade
And found his heart a melting pool
Of liquid silver shed tears

His breath he held for fear of loss
This beauty found; he must now know
For she had drawn his heart most near

But wait –

A shadow came upon the lea
The sky darkened with smoke laced herald
There was evil coming nigh

Then from o’er the mountain top- a roar
A burst of flame and blood run screech
As dragon wings beat the sky

Fell beast swooped down upon maiden then
Who swooned in dread of coming death
And off they flew towards brimstone lair

The Viking man, this warrior keen
He knew this Dragon Bane most foul
And that he must rescue his gypsy fair

He grabbed up blade and gilded shield
And reigned his faithful steed about
And off at gallop raced against the fates

Through the forest and o’er the mount
Along the river to dry bed lands
He prayed he’d not be too late

For special reasons of my own, I can't wait to discover the ending.

wide smiles

I enjoy epics very much and find them a particularly enticing challenge, and you are off to a great start!

(and I'll bet a certain viking agrees!)

Mmm - thank you - it was not meant to be more than one piece, but the images just kept coming - too many words for the page -

Thanks for expressing your enjoyment -

Hugs - Susan
