Occupied I am today
with my train of thought
so long delayed, distracted,
on the busy tracks of life.

One coach new and sparkling,
some seem beyond repair
yet history keeps them moving
and slowing down my train
while I meander through the past
to disembark the meaningless
and pick up meaningful.

At the station of today
many coaches lie
behind my engine, energy,
now puffing aimlessly
into the ether of a dream
where the railroad cannot go.

Fuelled up on hopes and wishes
I yet stand still and wait
but my train of thought grows weary,
energy begins to wane,
and the bright and far horizon
slowly fades to pale
as workers walk to unhitch
what appears will never be.

And the whistle blows
but by now the night hangs low
and my train merely rolls
with the lifting of the brakes
and not by the force
of passionate release
held in check, reserved,
yet stoked regularly
by mysterious and unseen
shadows of reality.

Rolling, rolling, rolling;
how endless seems the roll
before the normal everyday
can ignite and keep alive
the excitement of my train of thought
without that most important
unhitched sparkling coach!

I often think of things in terms of trains and tracks and stations

Dixie - I somehow think of trains as being "romantic" - not sure why though.

Hi Jo - yes, I've missed you here.  Hope all is well.

this was beautiful...to me trains ring the magic of travel and exploration to heart
love them, the sound of their whistles, screaming out to everyone....Allll Aboard
and the excitement of surprise of what may be waiting there, when the train stops...
Smiles and hugs for a marvelous write.
