Shady Maple

The maple spills its summer green
And tips its crimson crown
And will tomorrow brush its leaves
Across the autumn ground

It’s given in to winter’s call
Succumbing to the breeze
And onto shades of clinging fall
Comes winter’s birthing freeze

And I look on as autumn plods
Across the golden field
But I, in turn, by Grace of God
Won’t let my passions yield

I am a stubborn maple tree,
Forbidding leaves to part
For all my beauteous dreams are pressed
In pages of my heart

And I will not consent for fall
To grow my visions old
And love will not allow the wind
To steal my dreams of gold

Do not consent for fall...or TO fall, until they brin the chainsaw.

I've always admired maples, because they save everything they have, and save it as sweetness... in order to jump out to a head start next spring, when green and not red is the most beautiful color.
