Silver, finely etched....timeless gift.
A mother’s thimble, bearing the scars
of countless stitches.

Ragged holes delicately closed, a surgeon’s
touch.   A woven bastion now standing where
a toe once escaped the confines of
smooth cotton.

Such love which gently wove the weave,
a smile covering eyes that viewed the
struggle of a child’s dance amongst the
flowers.

Countless times a thimble has shored
the breech.  Giving a reprieve to a
heel once closed, exposed and yet again
methodically shut against the elements
of the earth.

And now, somewhere amongst threads,
needles, paraffin blocks, a worn pair
of black handled scissors.

Somewhere amongst this isolated and
oft forgotten memorabilia lies the warrior’s
helmet, a silver thimble....hoping to again
shore the breech and stem the flow of
childish toes...to never be forgotten
or left to lie alone, waiting to again
see a mother’s smiling eyes.

Very cool write.  Memories do carry a strong current in the beat of our hearts and soul.  I believe as time goes on, certain ones actually become stronger and more vivid.  You bring to us some very wonderful images and loving memories.  Nicely done.

Barry -

You write of such ordinary, and with your talent, it becomes extraordinary - heart warming, comforting, beautiful -

Barry,
A touching write, to shed some light upon the grace of rose and lace.

This brought back so many memories... a little girl dreamed of the day she'd join the group settled around the quilting frame for the patterns those flashing needles painted fascinated me so. *S* Enjoyed much! *S*

As a mother, this one makes me think of how the little things I do make a difference; speak of love to my children.  Thank you.
