Here sit I upon this shelf,
Bound and blue and by myself.
An unread book with ne'er a glance,
~ Chapters of denied romance.

Passions pink within each page,
Fade to sepia as they age.
Secret longings left untold,
~ No readers for my heart's unfold.

I hold the key to my life's book,
But no one cares to take a look
At words expressed from soul of me,
~ No knight to set this maiden free.

Locked am I in turret high,
Just out of reach of sun and sky.
My cries for love remain unheard.
I'm lost, alone ~ a flightless bird.

O' Dear Lord, please heed my prayer,
Release me from my life's despair.
My hopes are gone ~ I'm bread unleavened.
I beg You raise me up me to heaven.

God knows how many "unread books" really are in pain like this? You have given them a very touching beautiful voice ....
yearning souls sing a soft melancholic song ...
you have captured it so very well.

I love how sincere and genuine this poem was.  And yet It’s just a poem.  Not something that directly reflects or even relates to your real life. Great poets aren’t just writers, they’re actors too =).  I love this.

Hi, Joe! Long time no see or read!
I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Yes, I agree, some of the qualities that make a good actor, can also help make a good poet. It is the ability to get out of your own skin and into the skin of others ~ so to speak!

Lee ~

Thank you for saying so. I was almost moved to tears while I was writing the poem. I really get into the moods of my poems. I suppose that is why I prefer to write in a more up-beat and positive style. If I'm not feeling that way at the start of the write, I am by the end of it! My poetry can be a source of inspiration in my own life! lol

Two line rhyme is one of my favorites especially when it just flows smooth and this one does.  So glad to hear that it was only a poem, now maybe Sy will give me my horse back.  Very good write with the longing not missing a beat.

Linda, I also loved the perfection of the
rhythm and rhyme in this beautiful poetry.
And, I am also glad to hear that it was
"just poetry" and not written from reality.
Hugs to you, my friend,
Ethel

Earth Angel,

I was moved to tears as I read this, because you DID write my life right now. I'm so very glad I ventured into Pip tonight to be able to read this treasure. Thank goodness I have friends whom enjoy reading my "book" to use your words. Thank you again for writing so elegantly what I am feeling right now.

I want to give you a loving hug, my friend. You are far too special to have a poem such as this being a reflection of your life.

May the love that is in your beautiful heart be returned to you a hundredfold.
