Call to attention a force that keeps me pinned
recollect a thought that would have me thinned
attracted to centres of heated discourses:
who will win the spar over a nation
that had never known Renaissance
or debated questions on sense of self
there's the gravity that keeps me grounded
and the gravity of not wanting to know
the years of diplomatic duplicity
cannot go on forever without notice.
Who will lead the electoral joust,
who will be vanquished in this tumult?
Security has lost its glow of permanence
national borders are forever permeable
the globe was never absolutely safe,
but we pretend that ballots will allow restful sleep.
How can an escalated intervention
a world away guarantee a sense of peace
where no blood is ever spilt?
Dreamer, dreamer, dream on
Can one safely think that armed intervention
will prevent more of the same
it never has....
while weapons are sold freely at home
in the name of tranquility, never mind peace...

Martin. you've taken the words right from my mind and penned them intelligently, eloquently. Thank you. It saddens me greatly to see the road we are on, and no one driving this machine ever looked for the highway exit until we were moving too fast to stop before crashing.

You surely caught the nail on the head. Powerful expressed.

It's all so horribly wrong! We are on the edge ... only a total inversion of direction can safe the world.

There is no way to feel safe when the means to reach this goal are means of destruction ...

Love, Margherita

I get the feeling Bush will win anyway because of the sense of false security he's selling, winning over people's votes with pictures showing him entertaining a new Iraqi president and the like. And how popular is this Iraqi president going to be having had the backing of foreign powers killing children now?!
