Steel Horses

I’m obsessed with the sound of my voice
in the open morning, the sun has no choice
but to rise into the unfolding gray of the sky
muted gold and swirling tones walk on by
as steel horses gallop across the skyline
and the rain cloaks the aching power lines
I am a freedom freak in my own time
don’t worry mother, I feel just fine

See all these raindrops waltz in time
feel my heart bump, bumble and grind
steel horses with dark thundering riders
what’s worse is this love that spiders
across my mind when the railway lines
break into song as the sky’s salty cries
fill holes in my heart, washes away my lies
I’m out to dry; I’ll feel just fine

Yeah I could come in from this cold
I could write a novel about love over gold
this wind terrorizes my drapes tonight
the gauche city streets bathe in light
of my fire burning strongly inside of me
it’s because I’m full of coal and kerosene
steel horses have collided with the hills
cloudy guts fall across the land and kills
any sleep I’ll get tonight, any dreams of wine
but it’s alright; anyway, I’m feeling just fine
