the soil-stained man
staggers
into my corner
clutching a book
on pragmatism,
lifted from the binds
at Border's edge.

he looks and smells
just like Socrates must have
right before he died,
and might well
employ the same sight
to carried words,
as soon as he
feels
his way to relief--
down the hall
past the
empty canary's cage.

The true poet writes to express, not impress.

To observe and acknowledge the possibilities is a gift indeed.  I truely enjoyed this piece.  Besides, it has coffee in the title, so I had to take a peek.
