Ancestral winds begin to blow
listen close~ you will know,
learn the legends of the past
born of life~ bred to last.
White wolf howls in the night
nature dances~  into dawns light.

Waters running clear and pure
wounds to heal~ only time can cure.
Battles fought and never won
a proud  history~ will never be undone.
Sit in silence as the elders speak
we watched~ a nation growing weak.

The spirits walk with you and I
a husband dead~ a woman cries.
Wild and free the eagle soars,
in the distance~ white man thunder roars.
A heritage standing proud and tall,
feel the presence~ hear the call.

A journey made into destiny
and our eyes~ do they now see?

The greatest beauty on earth, is
found in the hearts of those
who love....

Well, at least YOUR eyes do see clearly, with a gentle spirit guiding them, and interpreting history from the standpoint of compassion, heart and soul.
Thank you for this gentle write.

This reminds me of the incarcerated Native American, Leonard Peltier, who is running for President.  My husband just bought a book about it.  Very interesting reading...In the book it claims he was set up for charges of murder due to his advocacy of the Indian Movement.

Enjoyed.

G.S.
I enjoyed this poem very much...in fact, I can relate very much to what I perceive as its meaning...Ever since I was a boy and even now, a first nation spirit guides me, it overlooks my pagan roots, knows I am far from their source, and allows me to enter its world, even though I am a foreigner...the mention of a white wolf gave me chills and I enjoyed the shivering...

Sacred are the whispers spoken in wind
Lessons twisted between earth and sky
Pure are the rituals in ancestoral mend
Cleansing the spirits of tormented cries

Golden is the touch of eagle dipped wings
Residing in the hearts of native born pride
Spirited is the song as the whiporwill sings
Celebrating freedom from tears long ago dried

******************

I enjoyed much and I hope you don't mind the above verses as my response.

humble thanks to each of you for reading and listening....and hearing the message...

Mark...mind???  Heck no, I THANK you for the lovely gift of words....me thinks it should be a write posted all on its own....

and I hope you don't mind my reply to your verse either...

Legends told of ancients long ago
Elder voices speaking, I now hear
Spirit winds begin to blow
Rippling crystal waters of clear.

Sun shines down or'e native lands
Mother Earth smiles with light again
Gracing wisdom to all of man
Injustice can never win.

The greatest beauty on earth, is

One of your best ever, and I do believe there should be a collaboration brewing between you and the Cowboy...we could use a duet with this kind of message...

Well done!

How could I have missed this gem

this really grabs the ol heart and shakes it

hugs and thank you for sharing these historical winds....
