Moved from a shack to a barn

There is a certain odd comfort in this routine
This grayscale of time that passes weeks, as a single day
And the months that pile around me in a haphazard tumble

My dreams, though, are only slightly different
In them, I am Odysseus
Walking to exhaustion upon a too-familiar shore

While Helios dries my body of the sweat and scent
Of Circe, his daughter
And I close my eyes against his glaring inquisition

Only to dream within this dream
Of myself sleeping fitfully outside of Calypso’s cave,
My wars fought, my companions long gone

And me, waking
And walking through her woods back to the sea
To yet another beach from which there is no escape

Where I stoop and stare across the dark expanse
Of implacable, ever-patient ocean,
Looking in the face of Poseidon for hope of rescue

Or for some sign that faraway Penelope
Her suitors, stacked in drunken slumber
Still unravels her knots each day

Amazing.  Your writes always amaze me.  They always have this underlying/hidden meaning that I take from them.  Great, great write!

Excellent both for it's evocation of Odyssey and as a personal and reflective allegory.

*Odyssey is a favourite, but I could never sit through Iliad again

Do not think for one minute that you are ever staring across that expanse alone, about fifty people in here alone can vouch for that!

This is beautiful, Ed.

I stand as proof you don't have to know the tales to appreciate the write. Well done...

I've just been through a week that turned my soul inside out...and though nothing in this poem is about such a time, somehow your words are echoing down the halls of me. Maybe it's that the feeling now it's over, is exactly the one in this poem.

And me, waking
And walking through her woods back to the sea

Through her woods, I've been there once. Nice pen here wranx.
