Had we run,
Would we've
the ability
to stop numb?
Can its threshold
Be entered?

Can person unknown
Stop another’s pain?
Prevent future falls,
world withdrawals…
Thoughts
Of suicide?

Upon the bridge
We saw her.
We wondered
Her destination, her goals,
Photographic or artistic, or
Missile, gone ballistic…

Sy,
Appreciated your comments.  I'm a little moody presently.  Just got a call from my husband.
She jumped.  I can't believe it.  She looked so normal in passing.  I called 911 to tell them someone was walking on the interstate bridge, and that it seemed very odd to me...that my call was probably nothing...but I thought it strange.  Unfortunately, no one could reach her in time.  So sad.

painfully no, not unless the person wishes to change themselves...no one can take away the pain of another, or be a knight in shining armor...it's a label much to high for someone to live up to...and to expect that, only leads to a feeling of unwarrented failure. To depend on someone else for life, is to give up one's self...co-dependency is not healthy...and smothering for both parties involved.

A heartwrenching write...done very well

Thanks, Lee, for your words.  I'll share them with my husband as well.  He's hurting because he didn't park the car on the side of the road to check out the situation...
He couldn't have gotten there soon enough or done anything, but it's just the thought...

I've gotten many calls at 4 AM from frantic, desperate friends... even made a couple of those calls myself. In that place, though, it was never a stranger who could help...
This is an aching write. Wish it never had to be written... but you wrote of it well.

   Thanks for being you!  You are wonderful;
I understand why they called you...

This obviously makes me shiver .... because you have created the scenery so very impressively.
Sometimes we seem unable to prevent people from committing the extreme gesture ...
May your husband find comfort in the awareness that this soul is now assisted and admitted to the realms of love and understanding. We are here to learn.
Love and hugs.

Why the whatever, do I find words to write to

Dave

Why run when the world advances
Rubble strewn with acheivement
To enighlightment

To promise worlds
You thought on
Strained fingers could
Be entered?

This is sad, and I'm sorry you hurt. Don't forget you tried and there's only so much a stranger can do.

You did good with your caring heart Misc.

a tender compassionate write
extending long distance heart hugs,
as I feel this one

remembering, from my own past

the boy who jumped

Dark Angel,

My husband and I appreciate your comments. He's starting to understand why I like this place so well.  Everyone is wonderful, full of compassion.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

midnitesun,

Thank you for your thoughtfulness of suggesting a related poem.  I opened it, finding it helped answer a lot of questions we both are having, but I'm sure we'll find ourselves asking them again and again.  I appreciate you taking the time...

       Thanks again,
          miscellanea/Cathy

What a painful, powerful write. Helpless is such a draining feeling, isn't it? And yet... so often we are just that.

Well written, my friend.
