Between Seasons
By Larry Chadwick
Living our dash...

Nudged ever so gently,
It sneaks up from behind.
Done so imperceptively,
Barely it penetrates my mind.

Soft the cool breeze upon my face,
That reminds me of the time.
Between birth and death,
The dash - that is a line.

Ushering in the cycle of the fall,
Prodded by the presence of September.
Preparing me for colder times,
Times life has taught me to remember.

I turn and put my face into the wind,
Daring to brace myself for the cold.
Ever so gradually it embraces me,
But its familiarity makes me bold.

Then I recall the purity of the coming snow,
That is when the bulbs are able to begin.
I take solace in the truth,
We have to die to be able to live again.

In my own way, I utterly and completely understand this. The pain as the season changes, trying to adjust and let go of what was just enough to embrace what will be, all the while trying to make it through what is. Have I confused you yet? I try
This is excellent, Larry. It's so good to read you, I'm always glad when I do.
Take care!

This is so poignant to me...maybe because tomorrow is my birthday...and that day always feels like that dash, a time between one thing and another.  Between summer and fall, virgo and libra.

There is much thought and beauty of spirit in this poem, my friend...makes me want to hug you.

Hi Larry

I really loved this.  I saw so many wonderful images throughout this fine piece of writing and I felt much strength and inspiration. It is always so nice to see you, my friend and I hope you are alright.  I am hardly ever here now at PIP but whenever I am I always like to see your smiling face.

Take care.......Sue

Larry, now you have me singing an old Pete Seeger song, lyrics that apparently came from a biblical source. Not being a biblical scholar, I can't quote the book or chapter, but I do remember sing this:

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones, a time to gather stones together

To Everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time for every purpose, under Heaven

*
you always leave me feeling more complete than when I came to your post

Larry,
I love that dash, that pause between life and death and isn't autumn so remindful of it.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Ahhhhh so true ... one must never forget the ... "embrace" ... to keep us ... "bold."

Thank you for sharing this piece of work, especially these lovely thoughtful words to welcome in the first official day of Fall ... and for remembering.

I am smiling now and "embracing" my day with a smile....thanks Larry.

How can someone whose lessons were so rough have learned so much with such grace? Your dash holds much, my friend... and stretches heart to heart across this world.

Beautiful work!
