A Darker Blue

There ain’t no home to go to
     when you’re walking down
          that goodbye road alone,
And there ain’t no one to hold you
     when you find out you’re
no damn good on your own.

The years go by too quick
     and there’s no way you
can slow ‘em down at all.
Take your place and chalk the stick
     point it at a pocket
          hit the ball.

Don’t matter where you’re running
     you’re not fast enough
          to leave the past behind.
And you can’t let the sun in
     when that goodbye fog
          is clouding up your mind.

The fears pile up too thick
     and there’s no way you
can knock ‘em down at all.
Take your place and chalk the stick
     point it at a pocket
hit the ball.

It’s hard to keep believing
     but some day you may
          finally get it right.
Don’t get lost inside your grieving
     there’s a dawn that breaks
          to end the longest night.

The tears will sometimes drip
     but there’s no way you
can catch ‘em when they fall.
Take your place and chalk the stick
     point it at a pocket
hit the ball.

And you hit the ball straight into the pocket with this write!

May all the roads that you travel in life, lead home...

Don’t matter where you’re running
     you’re not fast enough
          to leave the past behind.

It took many a run through darkness before I learned... but how well I know this! *S*

I like this very much... it flows so well the melody teases me... watch out or I'll sing! *G*

suthern girl, I'd like to hear you sing.  You keep saying that like it's a threat, but I ain't skeered.

James, thanks.

passing shadows, I kept singing it to myself all the time I was writing it.  It went from blues with a lot of horns to something like 'Bad to the Bone'.

muted, thank you so much! That's a compliment!

That's gotta be the most bluesey song I've ever heard. In the light of that if I was the one singing that song I'm sure I take aim to hit the ball and end up tearing the baize. Excellent and emotional write.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

Thanks Marge, I'd like to hear you sing.

Lee J, I'd like to hear it too. All the time I was writing it I was singing it to myself.
