Listening to every heart

Conditions Being None

Read “great expectations” and I have none,
conditions being what they are; for all things change,
and remain the same, I only know
I shall smile and laugh and sing again,

conditions, as they are, being none.

An itinerary with curve appeal, to wallow in each day,
nothing expected, nothing gained, but
happiness each way I look; for I shall roam a beach in late September,
a month known for its fog, and log onto a world my own
oh, the notes that I shall jot and take and taste upon my tongue, for
salt air is calling me home again…

calling me home, again.

We can try to walk away from places of our birth
transplanting feet of roots into red dirt or clay sucked sounds,
and yet, when a breath of time
scurries upon some wind
I find myself facing south, or west,
And ease my way back in
to soulful sighs of yesterday while facing tomorrow’s glare,
and all I know, yes, all I know,
is that I will find me there.

Behind my eyes I see so much, too much I’m sure, for you;
as fractured fractions of pure thought
are not for public view; and while I swing myself on wing
I hold onto the earth; and feel the sea, and sun,
and wind,
and understand my worth ~

for it’s not much, no, so many are more, but yet,
I feel it’s true; my sands in time are grained
in mind…no matter what the view; and time will tell
[cliché that it is] and swell my inner storm,
that I have never, ever settled less, for more than a thunderous storm.

Conditions being known, recall, I know that I shall go,
and Gumby me, flexibility
will travel me for goals.

smile.

I was just telling a friend about how my brother once told me that you have to move away from home at least once. If only for objectivity.

It's great to read you again, and yes, oh the conversations we will have!

Your thoughts are poignant ones, first and foremost that we remain true to ourselves.

I'm listening and I hear you Karilea, even when I don't let you know.

And your worth, it's a wonderful thing for those of us who are lucky enough to read you.

These say a lot...of that wandering soul
who always comes home once again.  Even
on days when the wander is inside the one
and kept for such a time as needed..

There is always a yearning to return to our roots...
like an unseen force pulling us...toward home.
Beautifully said Karilea.

A moving piece, calling to the heart - yes, Dorothy, there is no place like home.

Circles, circles yes...I am reminded of them when I read this poem....
"for all things change,
and remain the same..."
Following the outline of a circle, back to where it begun..

Again, a circle...
"An itinerary with curve appeal, to wallow in each day,
nothing expected, nothing gained, but
happiness each way I look.."
The "curve" of a circle, drawn by an inner child, of a life that has been crayoned out of its lines.

Again...
"calling me home, again."
And that "home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in" (Frost)
Circling back home....

And yet again....
"Conditions being known, recall, I know that I shall go,
and Gumby me, flexibility
will travel me for goals."
The edge of that circle is flexible, and pliant, we sometimes stretch its limits, sometimes it breaks, but the beauty is that time can mend the rupture...I am sure you will bring back the circle to its original , beautiful form...

Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling

What goes around comes around and so the circles of our lives are neverending. I've left home (Pennsylvania) and returned several years later, aching especially for this time of year, autumn, and now nearing the autumn of my life I find my self longing to experience other places, climates, experiences, and colors before I'm beseiged by winter...sometimes I'm left to wonder, do we ever really find home?

Sheesh Karilea, this is certainly a marvelous write, I found myself quoting the whole poem.

Definitely one to keep.

Well Done.

..."for all things change,
and remain the same, I only know
I shall smile and laugh and sing again,"

~ Profound and inspirational words!

"salt air is calling me home again…"

~ Me too! I lived on the east coast when I was a child. Right on the oceanside!

"Behind my eyes I see so much, too much I’m sure, for you;"

~ I can well-imagine that you do! I am grateful to be able to read the parts that you are willing to share with us through your poetry.

"I hold onto the earth; and feel the sea, and sun,
and wind,
and understand my worth ~ "

~ and your worth is beyond measure!

God bless you!

Linda

Absolutely.  I agree with everything you say, and I was singing the words in my mind.

The roots act like magnets, this is so true.

You have expressed your thoughts very beautifully and I can relate.

Karilea,
You make me long for that journey. I hope it is soon. To walk that path, once more. Bless you.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Funnily enough I understood this.

There is an old Irish bit of a song:

But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise
And that you should not

So drink with me
The parting glass

Good night
And joy be with you all

Dave
