MYSTERIES OF THE AGES

How come, how come, how come
is it 100 times harder
to make than to spend?

Why, oh, why, oh why
does time fly and drag
when you’re waiting
but hoping to stop the clock
from its incessant ticking away?

When the sun is shining
so bright, how does the rain
continue to fall? But then,
if it didn’t happen that way
would we have a rainbow at all?

For what reason does Kokomo Joe
get in front of you going so slow
then when you get to a passing zone
he speeds up his heading for home?

Why does a good book
take forever to end
then the moment it does
it radiates sadness
like you’ve lost a good friend?

I wonder why it’s true
an essayist’s page
seems so barren and white
then when the final point is to be made
the words get scrunched in so tight.

Then the mathematical riddle of all time
if it takes 4 men an hour to dig a hole,
how long will it take 8 to dig a half
a hole?

There’s mysteries and conundrums galore
they’ll go on quite much as before
confounding the wise,
befuddling the foolish
disrupting the mind
and enraging the ghoulish

But if we knew everything
we’d probably die
for there’d be nothing left
to seek or to try.

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Ah yes, those mysteries.  And what a delight you gave me in contemplating them.  Thanks.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Good point, Virginia....

and personally, I wonder, if our purpose here is to help others, then what are the others here for?
