Reverent Poet Tones, Her Story

Some days whisper, find me again,
so brief were the good times, the shared moment ~
someone’s laughter reminding her of his…

so much so, she walked the day in trance-like steps,
wanting to be within walls she calls her own, just so she

could take the book from the shelf, trace again
lines of a poet lover’s heart upon famous poet’s lines,
for if her lover ever became famous, she never knew,
for she hadn’t found him, yet…again.

Her eyes having aged, not so much in lines, but in wear;
her glasses sat tipped upon bridge of slender nose,
remembering his wearing of glasses,
and read from cover to cover, those famous lines,
then his lines of interpretation, and dedication,
not only to her, but to himself, as well,
as if they were clues of “this is who I was”,
so that she would think of him later, not grayed,
or bent, but swift, sure, full of tunes
of heart, and life.

For he had known.  He had derived from her own pragmatism
that which would ride her hips and lips, leading her
to places he could never go.

He knew.  So he had shared his cat, his wine
and cheese, with niblets to tempt his kitty,
so that cat’s sleek black fur would run under her chin
in front of him, hearing them both purr, knowing he
loved both, and continued to write notes
of heart in her Christmas gift, in the Year of the Cat.

As he let her go out the door that last time, he said,
“Always wear skirts, you have beautiful legs”.

She took to wearing slacks after that,
keeping her legs hidden from others’ eyes, heart paining
in truth of his inability to scale walls he had put
between them…

she closed the book, stroked the binding, and
pled a whisper, find me again.

Fantastic Elan, i love your story.

Maree

Well I see you doing...
What I try to do for me
With the words from a poet...
And a voice from a choir
And a melody... nothing else mattered

Breathtaking.  It just took my breath away.  Replying I look up at your request "Guide Me" and have to reply.  No, you guide me!  You seem to be doing fine on your own if this is what you are spitting out onto your pages.  It is magnificent.  A keeper.  Some of the finest writing I have seen anywhere.  Really.  I am tickled that I got to experience the sheer delight in reading it here.  I will be watching, ever intently, for more of your posts.  I am hungry for more.  You gonna' feed me?
