With Love, To Autumn

It’s that time of year again
groan the ground so hard the dig
the figs are all open
and the sky is a pale in between
no color abounds the dregs of summer’s run
and I am searching as I always do
for a change

The sky melted last nights with apples ripe
and piled on the neighbor’s porch
for pie to perfume this day
but in the naked night I had a dream
that this birth day next all coming would be green

Wither   the old tomato vine is sad
yet still the fruit I eat in slice of rebellion
against the dread   its red a proclamation
to a place of leaves fresh fallen
where I lay down what I thought was me a rolling
comfort grit and teeth unbroken by a fling of heart
I turn to sober shades my hair uncut and falling

Autumn    it is you I love
with your torch you take the wind to me
and burn me with the truth my birth recall
to wait for you this time of day
I wait for me as well

Slow the dragon not the ride
it is you I feel inside
and I can neither wait nor hurry
only leave the callus of my life again this year
and begin again the darning of the hole I made of fear

Here I sit tapping my fingers on the keyboard,
wishing the words would come to me so you would know how close you come to me.

Martie, thank you for this, and for sharing  your heart of gold!

Every line is magic Martie, you create so much of it. And this?....

I wait for me as well

Dear Martie - I too highlight the above but it was a hard choice.  I do wish I could write like you but ... there's only one of you.

Dreaming write here also Martie. Life seem's to leave that extra special door open for us dreamers. Very nice write, you opened-up the Autumn day here.

Fourth, maybe fifth time I've read this since it was posted....and each time it leaves me with the same haunting sadness that I'm at a loss to explain. This, from a guy with a degree in English Lit....

Perhaps it's something in the balance, the tone, the way your images play against each other.... maybe also in the feeling of resignation in it. I dunno, but whatever it is, it leaves me wistfully sad.

A softly melancholic embrace between you and Autumn.

Wonderfully written.

Wonderful writing!

I am not sure the dragon can be slowed against its will but just hang on tightly, you'll be OK.
