Moved from a shack to a barn

When I was still immortal
And the world bowed to me deepest
I remember her

Sleeping in a tangle
Of suit jacket and sheets

Cooling
Under the ceiling fans’ slow turnings

Pillowed by the crush of a bridesmaids’ dress
That earlier, had snugged her hips and breasts
Just so

Her neck and cheeks still glowing
In the afterward

And recall our conversation
When she received the invitation

‘If we’re going to be attending a wedding
At Duke University’s Rose Garden
I need to get a white linen suit”

“You’re going to do something, aren’t you?”

“And maybe a hat, yeah, a boater"

“You’re going to do something silly and embarrass yourself”

“C’mon Libby, you know I don’t easily embarrass”

“Well then, you’ll embarrass me in front of my family”

“No Sugar, I’ll be the one disguised as a perfect gentleman”

This leads me to thought of a man eternal
in the world of literature...but I think
I crossed the genders in your writing,
but the smoke from a corn-cob pipe led me
there, anyway...

Good reading, Wranx.  I'm so glad to see you
posting again!

you need no disguise, you never did . . .
nor will . . .

(uhh ok well, hmm maybe sometimes . . .)
*laughing*

(and btw, you are still immortal.)

I love you, you know that?
You are a beautiful man
and this memory gave me a smile.

Oh come now, is it really that much of a disguise?
Methinks you would wear your finest hat to suit yourself, and that's a good thing.

Smiling at you, and little tweety bird too!

Neat poem, wranx~
