Nobodies make the world go round

Grandpa fixes flat tires
and dripping sinks;
drives a tractor,
cuts hair and plays the drums;
feeds dogs, cleans the yard
and plays ‘bus’ driver
when they need him,
grandpa’s stretched
so thin he thinks
they must see
right through him.

Grandma drives too fast;
too many requests to
fill and too little time
to get there.
No time to read it slow
she speed reads it
twice, there’s always somebody
waiting for something
and grandma drives
too fast.

Sister of a brother who died
when she needed him most,
daytime secretary, nightime
cashier, best friend, ‘stand in dad’
and Mommy-
sporting a Lexis and legs
stepping out into the cold
wearing slippers ‘cause
six:thirty’s in too much of a hurry
to be four inches higher

And just turned seven
is everybody’s love,
charming without even
trying, women and girls
already vying for a smile and he
readily gives them.

To busy, too tired,
or justifiably [insert opinion/emotion],
its nobody’s business but your own.
Dirt poor, lower middle, or
self sufficient, nobody’s
got to work for a living.
Time for playing-nobody tells
nobody knows- but then
we always have tomorrow
don’t we?

(inspiration from poem by Emily Dickinson “I'm nobody, who are you?”)

Much enjoyed this-

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

I even see long, curly eyelashes on this little dreamboat of a charmer...

As we are studying Emily Dickinson's works in our writer's group, I would like to take this poem to the next class.  You game on sharing it with me that far?

Like you're going to say "no", right?

....no...lol......no really I'd be honored.
This was a challenge to find an author and write a poem of social commentary on one of their famous works.....and this was the best I could come up with....I am not good at challenges, but when they pick you by name its hard to duck out gracefully lol
thank you all

Nobodies make the world go around....so true....funny thing is..the ones that think they're "somebody" are usually fake and temporary...

Oh, lady... I love this... You paint each portrait vividly... and convince us that nobodies are most important somebodies. *S*

Excellent write!

toe and suthern, thank you both, and yep that's what I was trying to say...we are somebody, if only to the ones who love us, but what would this world be without us?
thank you both
