Sierra's Love This poem is dedicated to Sierra's mother who epitomizes a mother's love in the face of adversity. Sierra is a beautiful child of four who was born with a serious brain disorder (the top half of her brain was missing). At birth she had no optic nerve and was diagnosed with severe physical and psychological problems. She was not expected to survive beyond her first year. Today Sierra has no physical deformities and runs and plays like any four year old even though she is blind. She cannot speak coherently yet chatters in her own way incessantly.She can see things that you and I cannot. No one knows how!! She is truely a miracle child and her mother's love is a thing of beauty. Sierra’s Love I was born in darkness Bereft of sound and sight Till your gentle tears upon my face Gave me the will to fight I see not what others see Stumble from place to place Knowing that each journey’s end Will be your loving embrace I hear not what others do And of much I do not know ‘Til the clarion call of a mother’s love Tells me of friend from foe The mind struggles with countless thoughts Yet bereft of coherent speech Till the loving touch of a mother’s kiss Quells the need to reach It grieves me not when its said I’m strange and uncommon wild Cause I know that you tell them all, I’m just a very special child Each day dawns upon this life With strength and purpose anew To coerce my thoughts into words to say Just how much I love you |
