The light of day no more can guide you
but your mended heart is free
I, with strange hands lead you, teach you
less than you taught me

And while you with eyes beat blank
when your body lay most dead
The rest of us still lived-
  oblivious to what they did

Your hands so young, still ripe from school
   once wrote tests, rolled cigarettes

Every so oft I see you sigh
  and contemplate your days
Do you think you're just some blind guy?
...I'm glad you've come my way

And for the record
being blind doesn't change how smart you are
And being young doesn't affect how old you have to be

You don't need my input to share.
I loved your expression.
It was so real.

What kindness your words speak of, and of insight into the gifts given to us from those we meet-in their uniqueness.

Susan

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Thanks Haze - I'm glad I could describe my experience in a way that showed its 'realness'

Susan - I'm learning to appreciate people's uniqueness, and that in itself is a special gift to me

I am actually visually impaired because I have a bit of usable vision. You have a wonderful expression here. I have been visually impaired all of my life, and I have no idea what it is like to have full sight. However, it does not matter that much because I really have not lost anything. I never had full sight in the first place. It does not change a persons inside. It is just who they are, or who they have become in some cases.

Thanks Kristabell for sharing that.  One of his frustrations is being treated differently - like he's not as capable as he is
