And the foolish sound out
with brass bands to crowds
love is a friend, an imaginary friend,
born from a figment and fabrication
of overactive imagination.

Bravo, Bravo, the people bellow
and move as one to the front
anxious to hear each syllable clear
and entrench them in memory.

Puffed up like a helium balloon
the spokesman goes off on a tangent
with intent to lay impeccable truth
at the feet of a captive audience.

Hear me!  Hear me!  Love isn’t sweet
for always it fights for life,
is not always right,
and quickly can swing
into the moody blues.

It’s known to be weak at the knees
and silently suffer the intentional
and unintentional
severe degradation of man.

Unskilled at providing protection
love bows in the face of pressure
when asked to deliver
what’s not been received.

Unbalanced it bends to a child’s level
and flops on the floor with a dog
but so very timid in slithers away
whenever anyone shouts.

It travels while standing still
through channels unseen by the wise,
smiles a sweet smile or cries,
embraces, ignores,
or chooses to pour
oil onto the fire.

Sometimes it blocks the path,
sometimes it shows the way,
which just goes to prove
each day brings new views
at the behest of love’s flexibility.

When in a relationship with
this imaginary friend called love
born from a figment and fabrication
of overactive imagination
the impossible and highly improbable
is most decidedly bound to happen.

As the spokesman bowed to the ground
those in the know just frowned
too polite to enlighten a foolish crowd
that love is no friend, imaginary friend,
but the core essence of every woman
born yesterday, today,
and still to be born tomorrow,
from incredible tenacity
and unrivalled intensity!

Yes, love is the core essence - it is the very heart of being -

The truth in your writing is a revelation in itself.
Oh what a relief it is!!

God love ya Lady Sunday~

Ah, you said it so well.  And, yes, it is rather humorous to watch the speaker bow and the audience clap....   ....jo

Thanks Jo and M for the read.  Truth?  Perhaps being truthful is considered as an out of reach exultant state in these present times.  Dunno really - just a thought.
