Made smooth by the sea
with no crevice or crease
pebbles float inward to land
high on waves of over inflated ideas
of their own individual importance
in nature’s magnificent plan.

And the pebbles arrive on the shore
entrenched in the illusionary belief
that they are large protruding rocks
destined to form the long jagged edge
of life’s great precipice.

But pebbles, mere pebbles,
are debased and despoiled
by storms coming in from the sea
until fantasy lies as a false prophecy
beneath their reason for being.

Today mere pebbles gather and mix
One-time fantasy with harsh reality
while preventing the sand from drifting away
and causing the collapse of protruding rocks.

Whether a pebble or whether a rock,
whether a king or a servant to him,
how great is life’s incredible scheme
that brings forth from the sea
such smooth and untainted beauty
and buries its true importance
amongst the mass of humanity!

Epic...

The scope, narrowed by an intricate dance. Does that describe it? Probably not. But yeah, maybe. No matter, I am impressed. Do I need to say more? Is there a higher a praise?

Enjoyed every word of this, reminded me that we are all
but grains of sand in the big scheme of things.

Bless you, Helen~

~K~  Thank you so much for your lovely comment which is greatly appreciated.

Hi, Bluesy - No, dear girl, we're pebbles - all the others are the grains of sand.

Thanks for that, Sunshine!  It's a pity we most times take it all for granted.
