Summer’s last breath
stirred honeysuckle
and mint,
sepia veil of delicate
seeking nectar
from her sigh

as amber locks
spilled across
shadowed forest green,
framing her face
imagining, I traced

downturn
of lip,
cleft of chin.

Soon, this canopy
will color and fall
leaving season’s
fragrant recall
where once
her quiet settled me
now a whispered memory

and the sweet breath
of late summer days.

Oh yum.

This is canicularity at it's peak of perfection, right before a dramatic decrescendo into autumnal glory.

Can I keep this? Good.

If I were to touch you, would you bleed a velvet river, running miracles through the sodden ground? --Moi

LOL,and the lineup begins, Dunc.
What a tasty summer write. I'm smelling  honeysuckles and tasting mint on my lips reading this smoothie.

It is so easy to personalize this, and see two people...it is also very easy to see a young man holding a leaf in his hand, tracing the veins of what remains, as it is now orphaned from its mother tree...

it is a beautiful late summer day poem.

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

Duncan,
You do your feminine side very well! This is fabulous and if you doubt that check out the ladies replies. Dang!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

all summers should end in a whisper this way.... Beautiful Write

I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken I just want you to know who I am

a whisper of rhyme and scream of beauty...

you always know how to envoke a feeling of pure connection with your words.
