Bow grasped in hand
Sleek, smooth, well fitting
String taut and strong
Arrow fletched and nocked
Pulled back full draw
Kissing cheek in greeting
Anchored by fingers waiting . . .

Anticipating

--Breath stilled --

Steady

Ready

Release

Shaft soars through air
True, swift, seeking
Trailing whispers of its path
Before the target meeting

Pierced

Bleeding

Your heart shall weep
From the wounds of its making
Tears shed in tender bliss
A soul just now awakening
Given life by quivering death
Of an Arrow loosed as this

s.a.t.

a little word of explaination - arrow represents strong emotion, in this case, love, that the archer sends to the target, or from one heart to another. When an arrow strikes a target, it quivers, gifting its last bit of energy and strength to the target before it settles to a stop.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Dunno exactly why, but this reminds me of some of Shakespeare's sonnets, specifically his 153rd, wherein Cupid's brand "got new fire" from "my mistress' eyes"; and how love heals the soul, shot straight through the heart. Gah, I'm babbling, nevermind. I just wanted to say, I loved this poem.. it's beautiful and it did indeed touch me. Thanks.

Thank you for the kindness of you reply and I am very pleased that you enjoyed this.  Archery is a most beautiful sport, it is one that allows the archer to achieve a zen like state.  For me, the bow in hand, nocking the arrow, the sound of its flight, the sight of its path - it is beautiful.

To hear the winds of fatal soar
from fletch and feathered shaft.
A kiss when drawn awaits the flight
before the finished draught.

The whisper's edge rings silent,
the bow now still in wait.
The gleaming blade once violent
lies quiet till known their fate.

Thanx Susan for your thoughts of the bow
and arrow....I have always enjoyed
archery...a lot of fun until you start
putting them too close together and
break the nocks off....  No, I don't have
a closet of tools...(of your kind)...

Loved the poem and the metaphorical use
of the arrow and instrument in symbolizing
love....very appropriate...

Have any experience with Black Widow spiders?

Or Praying Mantis...???

I could tell you are an archer!  I tried my hand at it when I was fifteen and my arrow just went "Thud" down at my feet!

This was a pleasure to read.  You are such a skilled writer!  Enjoyed.

I didn't even need an explanation. It explained itself. You express yourself in creative ways. Your work is always different.

Thank you Haze.  Sometimes I speak of things in metaphors that are foreign to those unfamiliar with the art, such as archery.  I am pleased that the thought transcended the words.

James - thank you

Dark - wow, sounds dangerous.  I enjoy the long bow, personally - yesterday I split the wand.  Sure you want to play?

Reads to me like your aim is dead on!

Outstanding metaphor, Susan.
