               The Towers Down

               there is no answer
               but the question,
               neither hint nor
               bolt of reason shining
          through the smoke and grit
the glass, the steel rebuff the eye,
reject all answers but the one
          the mind will never take
                 there is no answer,
please let there be no answer
                 let no hope arise here
        suck imagination dry and
never let the eye put back
        the random beams, put back
the shattered secrets of the steel
                  the glass grit showered out
                  into the smoke of it,
oh let them lie here mute and real
          because there is no answer
                     but to stop to stare
                     to ask the answer question,
                and to turn away
                from a silent, empty sky

From Reflections....

Somehow it seems more pressing
this year, more intensely
necessary to express the
feeling. I don't know why.

I agree ratleader! You did an excellent job putting words into a poem, like pieces of a puzzle, your words fit snuggly together to form the great picture inside the readers minds...

Certain pictures can always make me cry the same silent tears that slid down my face as I watched the unthinkable... so can your words...

And you're absolutely right... the library I'm in doesn't have remembrance displays this year... but I feel that need, too.

Thank you, my friend... thank you.

sigh...yes, not forgotten.

(I was watching this special, and I didn't realize just how large ground zero actually is---seven building, they said. )

You write so eloquently, Ed. I thought at first this would be a dual voices poem--but is that too gimmicky?

And yep, I owe you an e mail--that little challenge proved to be maddening to me.

And thanks for posting this, in honor of our lost friends.

Perhaps because it is an election year, and there is so much emotion already, Ed...perhaps that is why.

Point being...it's a good poem, and I am sorry I didn't see it sooner.

Thank you, Sir.

sigh...thank you

I don’t want the world to see me
cause I don’t think that they’d understand
When everything’s made to be broken I just want you to know who I am

Ed,
Yes, it does seem more pressing--maybe like Sunshine suggested, election year!  We can't forget the past.  Sometimes, it surely would be more fun to do that, but... history is our teacher.  Her lesson plan?  Now that's a topic in itself...

  Well expressed, my friend.

...perhaps never an answer, but let no one stop asking the question. Excellent reminder!

Ed

Time sometimes takes things and makes them smaller or larger, depending....this we need to remember and never forget.
