Crushing their growing senses, senseless:
Languages are breached when children die,
Tears fall no different on cheeks
Of loving parents....atrocity beseeched.
*
The dead line the sidewalk, because morgues
Are all filled in the city of Baslan,
But these evil fruits, profit no Chechen
That say that revenge is their reason and motive,
Questions are whispered in the streets of Ossetian
*
'Russian-soldiers are killing, our children in Chechnya"
A Chechen speaks, out-loud to reporters,
Our children are dieing,"so we are here to kill yours'."
*
Breath that stinks of hate is atrocious,
Words solid with stench from Basayev followers
Who remember the bloodshed that reddened the Caucasus;
Dead children in streets there, number forty two thousand.

Is political loss worth the lives of these many,
That lie in the streets, their bodies all charred?
The borders have changed since the fall of the union;
Yet you wasted the lives of these parents and children,
Stalin must rule the mind of you, Putin!

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.
Longfellow

this breaks the readers heart...
and written very well, but Ice, I gotta tell you, this makes a person want to smack the heck out of the people who did this...so tragic, worthless move...what greater hate could someone harbor that would kill children like this?

Bless you for writing and caring...and reminding us to keep trying to do better, so that these little ones have not lost their lives for nothing....

Sorry, this made me very emotional...

I am so glad you wrote of this.  I wanted to, but couldn't wade out of the sadness to find the words.  You did.  Very well expressed.  Thank you,

Most people who do not write
believe that "all" poets are pacifists...
clearly, this is not so...
as some are very able
to rock the world
with words.

As you do.

Thank you, my friend,
for being able to put before us
all that you see.

It is the sorrow of the world, when power and domination is the goal rather than love and co-existance.  I cannot understand it.  And my heart cries because of it.  Well said.

I would have to echo the other posts here.  Such a travesty.  You have engaged me into the heart of reality there and forced my to reconcile with my spirit the grim reality of such atrocities.  Certainly the problem with all of us as societies is lack of respect.  Respect is the fundamental necessity to peace that all social groups, large or small, neglect to a great degree.  It is the reason for terrorism, wars, riots, protests, etc.  This was a great thought-provoking, engaging, and heartwrenching bit of writing that I appreciated for exactly what you meant it to be.
