As some of you know, a year ago tomorrow my son had an almost fatal car crash. As fate would have it, after a long road of great therapy and rest, he is now 100% back to normal, and running his companies. His friends, family, and colleagues are throwing him a tiny anniversary celebration tomorrow at lunch. I wrote a little something to share and wanted to thank those of you that saw me through the worst time of my life.

We're A Day Away From That Yesterday

We’re a day away from that yesterday,
When life almost passed him by.
I remember when the phone rang,
All I could do was sit there and cry.

My heart was racing with such speed
I thought it would jump from my chest,
Every nerve in my body was simply on fire,
I was barely functioning at best.

My boy, now a man lay unconscious.
How could this happen to us, and why?
I kicked into autopilot for some reason,
Wiping a falling tear away from my eye.

I raced to be with his wife, Brenda
Who instinctively knew he had crashed that day.
She summoned the police, and ambulance herself
Jumped into her car, and was on her way.

Somehow she knew something was wrong,
She didn’t even know how or why,
But she knew if she didn’t hurry and find him,
The love of her life was surly going to die.

They found him ~ just barely alive,
His sports car wrapped around a pole that day.
The doctors said he might never be right,
My son, the fighter? ~ If there’s a will, there’s a way!

I still remember picking glass out of his skin,
Along with the emergency team they had on deck.
Someone there asked me to leave only once,
Do I need tell you that I gave them heck?

Severe brain contusions they said take time,
Dear God please I prayed make my son right.
He has a loving wife, and two little girls,
He longs to hold each, and every night.

Therapy, lots of love, support of family,
Repaired any damage that was done,
Now my happy family is together again,
Loving each other, having such fun.

A year has passed since that horrible day,
Thank GOD I still have my son.
He is not only “fixed”; he is better in fact,
Nary a tiny screw in his brain came undone.

He’s kinder, and wiser, and smarter in fact,
Doesn’t remember the accident at all.
Every time I see this picture he shows,
Down on my knees I inevitably fall.

Here are two wonderful reasons he came back, and we are sure glad he did.

Dearest sweet Sharon,
How joyful it is to know he is 100%. How I wish I could have been there for you too. I can't imagine the stress of what you experienced. I only know you have the undying love that only a parent can have. I am extremely happy for you that all is well. Peace.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Need I say that this one makes me cry, with sheer joy for all of you?
I lift my glass of wine in celebration
of Todd and Brenda and two prescious daughters, and super mom.

This is a wonderful poem to celebrate Todd's recovery, Sharon. What a difference a year makes.

I know it's been a long haul, with many tears and anguish at the start ... but such happiness and positive things have grown from that near fatal day.

With the incredible support and love from you, Brenda and the girls cheering him on ... Todd has really come through a miracle. He is one lucky man, to have such incredible women surrounding him.

Take care of you, and I'll be thinking about you all today.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Isn't he the lucky fellow
To have a Mom like you
Always caring, always sharing
And lucky he had Brenda too

Sharon, isn't this the greatest gift, to have him hopping around, all safe and sound?
The girls are gorgeous.

Happy celebration dear friend, you all deserved it.

And I'm the one who must say 'Thank you' for giving us three years of your love and caring.

Titia

It was a long road for all of you to travel, and you all came through wonderfully.  I remember the concern you had for the babies...your daughter-in-law, and for Todd's return to a healthy life.  It is wonderful to share this successful anniversary with you, m'friend.

darling, this gave me chills through and through.  I didn't know, and I'm so sorry for the despair and pain you all felt, but God, I'm so happy he's here with you all today.  And that is the greatness of a miracle, perhaps at the time, thin skinned but overwhealming a miracle today.

Love to you

Do you believe in miracles? *S*

Oh, yes... especially when they're powered by love. *S*

This is beautiful, my friend... I'm so glad for all of you and will be thinking of you as you celebrate love and life. *S*

I came in to send this over to Todd's office and want to thank you all for your loving wishes.  I am so glad I followed Suthern's comment as I always did believe in miracles, but this was the only one I ever witnessed.

It was not until today I realized no one has even questioned Brenda's certainty of Todd being in trouble that day.  She just left the girls next door, and drove off to find him, calling in the "troups" along the way on her phone.  I talked to her on Yahoo this morning to ask her, and here is what she said. Reading this, it is not hard to figure out why I love her so much:

sharon: I have never asked you whatever made you think that Todd was not alright that day you went to find him on the highway, calling the ambulance and stuff?  Was that "a miracle?"

brenda: don't know what it was. I just knew, I had a feeling.

sharon: But you left "before" anyone called didn't you?  Incredible!

brenda: I called the office, Todd wasn't at work, and it was raining - just felt it in my gut.

sharon: Well, it's good you listened to that gut I think?

brenda: i'm always thinking of Todd - maybe i'm weird that way?

sharon: You are not weird, just like your Mom, and that is a good thing, sensitive.  Did I tell you today how much I love you?

brenda: love you too. I'm a lucky girl. Awesome mother-in-law (most can't stand their's) 2 great girls and a handsome husband. What can you say?

Not much!

So you see life is very good, and I am truly blessed with the warmth of this family, and that to me is in itself a miracle.

There was no other way this year could have turned out, Sharon.

We know you and your ways.  You wouldn't have accepted any other outcome.  You used every bit of strength and commitment you had to help Todd recuperate, and he did.

Congratulations to all of you - May all of you be well and be there for each other for years & years to come...

Thanks Sue and Nan, we were indeed very blessed that is for sure.

You know this was the very first time I attended a surprise party for a "Celebration of Life", and you know what?  I think we should all have them on a regular basis.  The luncheon was a wonderful success and do you think he was glad to see his youngest daughter show up for it?  You betca!
